Popular Culture

Popular culture is a way of life for most people. To broaden the definition would be a persons belief, customs, traditions and behavior that is shared throughout a community. Culture is learned from those that are around you like family and friends. There are many things that impact popular culture. The economics of the country, a person's level of education, being exposed to something, their emotions and sensations.

What Popular Culture means to me. Popular culture is how things appeal to a person. Most popular culture makes a person feel good. For example, if you like a new song that has come out then you will more likely listen to it again or even go buy the CD. If a person doesn't like or enjoy something they won't want to purchase it.

Most people will purchase something that is pleasing to the eye or makes them feel good. A company will want to distribute a product that the public either needs or wants. This will increase sales now and in the future.

The tootsie Roll is a pop culture artifact. The Tootsie Roll has been around for over 100 years and is still liked and enjoyed by many. I chose the Tootsie Roll for this reason. The thing I thought was the most interesting is that it is still the same price as when it was first introduced.

  2. I really liked your blog. I thought that it was very insightful into the meaning of Popular Culture. It is kind of crazy to think that it is the similar in price from when it was first introduced until now. It is very refreshing to see something that so simple that has become such a popular item.

  4. I am in total agreement with you on your statements. I am one of those persons who will buy something because it is appealing to the eyes; especially when it comes to cell phones. I hate cell phones because I had to use one way back when, when they weren't popular. For me to answer a cell phone meant it was to go back to work. I refuse to use one for non-emergency issues because I hate to see people out in public talking to someone about nothing important holding up the line, almost running me off the road, or just talking about something that I don't want to hear(AT ALL). However, I will buy the best looking one with all the "bells and whistles" even though I know I won't use them. I also like that you picked the tootsie roll as a popular culture icon. It sent me back to the days when I coveted them like gold, and yes they are still the same price as they were in the good ole days (lol). They continue to make millions of dollars one penny at a time.
